About the club

Founded in 2009, Hegelmann Kaunas District is an ambitious football club that has quickly risen through the ranks of Lithuanian football. Known for their competitive spirit, the club aims to establish itself as a dominant force in A Lyga.

The club was established as FC Hegelmann Litauen in early 2009 by Hegelmann Transporte, a German-owned logistics and freight forwarding company. “Hegelmann” is derived from the family name of Anton Hegelmann, while “Litauen” means Lithuania in German. In January 2022, the club updated its logo and officially shortened its name to FC Hegelmann, dropping “Litauen.”

Hegelmann entered the Lithuanian second division in 2016 but was almost immediately relegated back to the third division. It took two seasons for the club to climb back to the second division. Hegelmann Kaunas then began an impressive ascent after appointing Lithuanian international legend Andrius Skerla as club manager. In his first season in 2021, Hegelmann finished in second place and was promoted to A Lyga. In their first two seasons in the top division, the club finished in fifth and fourth place, respectively. The fourth place finish in 2022 earned Hegelmann their first-ever ticket to a UEFA European competition, where they lost to North Macedonian side Shkupi on aggregate.

After finishing fifth again in the 2023 season and missing out on Europe, the Andrius Skerla-managed side made a significant impact in the 2024 season. The team had a record season, finishing in second place, which means that for the second time in the club’s history, they will participate in the European qualifiers in the summer of 2025.

Hegelmann came very close to winning their first silverwave – the Lithuanian Cup – on two occasions. First, losing to FK Žalgiris 2-1 in extra time in the final of the 2022 Cup and, more recently, losing to Banga 4-1 on penalties in 2024.

Despite big ambitions and an ever-improving competitive record, Hegelmann are one of the clubs (along with Riteriai) that struggle to grow an organic fan following the most, with large portion of their regular fans being people affiliated with the Hegelmann company or with the club itself (or someone in it).
