Paide Linnameeskond have made a decisive move during the season, announcing the departure of head coach Vladimir Vassiljev. Taking over the role on an interim basis is Tarmo Kink, who steps up from within the club’s coaching staff.
The decision comes with Paide sitting third in the Premium Liiga table after nine rounds, having collected 17 points and remaining within reach of the top, just four points behind leaders FCI Levadia Tallinn. Despite a relatively solid position, the club has chosen to act, signaling that internal expectations go beyond merely staying in the title race.
Sporting director Gert Kams highlighted the strength and unity within the club’s backroom staff, pointing to continuity as a key factor behind the decision. Kink, who has been part of the coaching setup since December 2023, is seen as someone who understands both the immediate needs and the longer-term direction of the team. According to Kams, the former international accepted the challenge without hesitation, bringing with him the same work ethic, intensity, and winning mentality that defined his playing career.
Club president Veiko Veskimäe acknowledged that such changes in the middle of a campaign are never straightforward and always carry risk, but emphasized that the club’s ambitions remain unchanged. Paide are still pushing for maximum results both in the league and in the Tipneri karikavõistlused, where they have already reached the semi-finals.
Vassiljev, who took charge in May 2025, oversaw 39 official matches during his tenure. While he helped maintain stability and competitiveness, Paide ultimately did not take the next step toward becoming a dominant force. Last season’s fourth-place finish means European qualification is not guaranteed through league position alone, placing additional importance on their cup run. The path, however, is far from easy, with Pärnu JK Vaprus standing as their semi-final opponent, while FC Flora Tallinn and JK Narva Trans battle in the other tie.
