Nõmme United claimed a dramatic 2-1 home win over Kuressaare in Premium Liiga Matchday 9, with Andre Frolov converting a penalty in the final seconds of stoppage time.
United started with more possession, but Kuressaare created the first dangerous moments. Jevgeni Demidov had two early chances, first after a quick counter and then from a cross, but both efforts went straight at United goalkeeper Gregor Pürg.
The hosts gradually took control and thought they had scored earlier when Kevin Mätas headed in after Chanda kept the ball alive, but the ball had already crossed the byline before the assist. United eventually found the breakthrough in the 31st minute, when Karl Läänelaid controlled Henri Järvelaid’s cross near the six-yard box and finished with his second touch.
Kuressaare improved late in the first half and continued to grow into the game after the break. Deivid Andreas forced a strong save from Pürg with a powerful long-range strike, while the visitors created pressure through a series of corners.
The match turned in the 71st minute when Rasmus Saar was sent off after pulling down Chisala as the last defender. Despite going down to ten men, Kuressaare reacted well and equalised in the 77th minute. Andreas’ corner caused chaos in the box, Rico Piil struck the crossbar, and Johann Vahermägi reacted quickest to turn in the rebound.
United struggled to regain control, but the decisive moment came deep into stoppage time. After a VAR review, Piil was judged to have pulled Bruno Vain’s shirt inside the box, giving United a penalty with virtually the final action of the match. Frolov stepped up and fired in from the spot, with Karl-Romet Nõmm guessing the right way but unable to keep it out.
The final whistle came immediately after the goal, sealing a hard-fought and dramatic victory for Nõmme United.
