Motiejus Burba – the 21 year old Lithuanian U-21 international was recognised as the Best Young player for October/November by the Lithuanian Football Federation.
The young and promising FK Sūduva winger was chosen by a media vote for his outstanding performances in the end of the season, especially during the final matches where he proved instrumental in helping the Marijampole club to avoid direct relegation and earn a chance at remaining in the top flight via the playoffs versus FK Be1.
Burba, who is on loan to Sūduva from FK Žalgiris, played four matches in October and November, scoring two goals – a stunning long range effort against Banga and a penalty against Žalgiris Kaunas. He scored a total of three goals over 32 games this season.
Reflecting on his award to the LFF, Motiejus shared his thoughts on the end of season:
This stretch showed that we really have a fighting mentality in the team. We found ourselves in a situation where we had to score points and we did. Both I, the coaching staff, the players and the fans understand that “Sūduva” should not be so low, but in such circumstances, the most important thing was to take 9th place and fight for survival. We are an A Lyga club and we prepare very responsibly both during analysis and in training. It will not be easy, it never is, but I believe in my teammates!
Burba joins the distinguished company of Ode Abdullahi (Dainava), Armandas Kučys (Kaunas Žalgiris), Pijus Srėbalius (Banga), Tautvydas Burdzilauskas (Sūduva), Oyunlola Kayode (Kaunas Žalgiris) and Davoras Rakić (Dainava) to win this award this season.
