Panevėžys have appointed experienced Finnish coach Toni Korkeakunnas as their new head coach on a deal running until the end of the season.
The 57-year-old arrives after the club reached an agreement during the international break. He is due in Panevėžys in the coming days and will then begin work with his new squad.
Korkeakunnas began his coaching career in the late 1990s after ending his playing days at Gnistan. He has since held roles with Hämeenlinna, Viikingit, MyPa and Lahti, and has also worked with Finland’s national teams as Under-19 head coach, analyst and assistant.
His most prominent recent spell came with HJK. He led the Helsinki club into the UEFA Conference League group stage on two occasions and won the Finnish title once. In 2024, Korkeakunnas brought HJK to Panevėžys for European qualifying, but his side were beaten as the Lithuanian club celebrated at Aukštaitija Stadium.
Last year he took charge of Norwegian side Haugesund, his first job outside Finland, before leaving the club in March 2026.
