Šits, who started the game and played 71 minutes before being replaced by Vladislavs Gutkovskis, suffered the injury when an opposing player stepped on his foot during a challenge. Despite the painful incident, the determined striker continued to play until his substitution.
Šits is now sidelined from training and will miss Latvia’s final group-stage match against Armenia on Sunday, November 17, at Skonto Stadium. Latvia faces a must-win scenario in that game to avoid finishing last in the group, where they are currently tied with Armenia on four points, behind Faroe Islands (6 points) and leaders North Macedonia (13 points).
