Dario Šits suffers fractured foot in Nations League match

In a setback for the Latvian national football team, forward Dario Šits sustained a foot fracture during the recent UEFA Nations League match against North Macedonia. Šits, who started the game and played 71 minutes before being replaced by Vladislavs Gutkovskis, suffered the injury when an opposing player stepped on his foot during a challenge. Despite the painful incident, the determined striker continued to play until his substitution.

Šits is now sidelined from training and will miss Latvia’s final group-stage match against Armenia on Sunday, November 17, at Skonto Stadium. Latvia faces a must-win scenario in that game to avoid finishing last in the group, where they are currently tied with Armenia on four points, behind Faroe Islands (6 points) and leaders North Macedonia (13 points).

Dario Šits has been gradually making his mark in the Latvian national team, featuring in three games during the ongoing UEFA Nations League campaign. His debut came on October 10, 2024, in a home match against North Macedonia, where he played 73 minutes in a challenging 0:3 defeat. Three days later on October 13, he scored his first goal in his career for Latvia, contributing 24 minutes in a 1:1 draw against the Faroe Islands
