Paide captain Henrik Ojamaa has been handed a two-match suspension after his red card for violent conduct in the opening round of the Premium liiga season.
Ojamaa was sent off after an incident involving Sander Kapper, and the Estonian FA disciplinary committee has now extended his punishment beyond the automatic one-match ban that follows a dismissal. As a result, he will also miss Sunday’s high-profile league meeting with FCI Levadia.
The midfielder will not be eligible to return until after the international break, with his next possible appearance set to be Paide’s away match against Kuressaare on 3 April.
Additional sanctions for violent conduct are not unusual in the Premium liiga, although they have not been applied in every such case. Last season, four players were shown red cards in the league for violent conduct, but only one of those incidents led to an extended suspension.
Among the other cases, Flora’s Marco Lukka was later found to have been wrongly sent off against Levadia, while Tammeka’s Henri Järvelaid received only a warning after striking an opponent in the face with his elbow in a match against Vaprus. Paide’s Luqman Gilmore also avoided a further ban after headbutting an opponent in a game against Levadia.
The only player to receive a longer additional suspension was Tammeka’s David Epton, who was given two extra matches after striking an opponent on the back of the head with his forearm against Paide, in what was his fourth red card of the season.
