In the opening and only match of Toplyga round five played on Saturday, FK Sūduva recorded another clean sheet while FC Hegelmann played out their fourth consecutive draw, as the match in the Marijampole arena ended 0-0.
Following a narrow defeat against Žalgiris Vilnius four days earlier, Sūduva head coach Donatas Vencevičius kept faith with the same starting eleven. The hosts were also boosted by the return of defensive leader and captain Aleksandar Živanović, who had been forced off after just 15 minutes in the previous match due to injury.
Hegelmann, still searching for their first victory of the season, continued to rely on goalkeeper Rokas Bagdonavičius, who made his second consecutive start and only his second appearance in Lithuania’s top division. Nigerian defender Isaac Barry also received his first start of the season.
Sūduva began the match strongly, building attacks through quick combinations and dominating possession. In the 11th minute, goalkeeper Bagdonavičius produced an excellent save to deny Ibrahima Seck from close range. The Hegelmann goalkeeper remained busy throughout the first half as the hosts applied sustained pressure.
For a six-minute spell, Sūduva launched attack after attack, forcing Hegelmann deep into their own half. However, the visitors managed to withstand the pressure and gradually the intensity of Sūduva’s attacks decreased toward the end of the first half.
The pattern continued after the break, with Sūduva creating the majority of the chances. Several promising opportunities either missed the target or were stopped by Bagdonavičius, who delivered a strong performance between the posts.
In the 80th minute, it appeared that Sūduva’s dominance had finally been rewarded. After a chaotic situation inside the penalty area, Moutir Chajia managed to put the ball into the net. However, following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up.
Despite controlling the match and creating the better opportunities, Sūduva were unable to break the deadlock. The draw means Sūduva have now kept four clean sheets in their first five league matches, while Hegelmann have recorded four consecutive draws since their opening-round defeat.
The Toplyga fifth round continues on Sunday with two matches, before concluding Monday evening.
