Kauno Žalgiris continued their strong Toplyga start by making it three straight wins with a 2-1 away victory over Džiugas in Klaipėda.
The defending Lithuanian champions struck early, taking the lead in the eighth minute when Gratas Sirgėdas picked out Yukiyoshi Karashima’s run into the box and his delivery was turned in by Fabien Ourega from close range.
Kauno Žalgiris threatened to extend their advantage soon after, but Dāvis Ikaunieks failed to convert when through one-on-one and Marius Paukste also kept out Sirgėdas’ follow-up effort.
Džiugas levelled on the half-hour from a set-piece, with a scramble in the area ending in an acrobatic overhead-kick finish by Vermeulen to make it 1-1 at the break.
After a quiet spell following the restart, Motiejus Burba came close before Kauno Žalgiris regained the lead in the 78th minute – Leo Ribeiro finishing off an individual run to settle the match.
Džiugas pushed for an equaliser late on, but Tomas Švedkauskas made a key save to preserve the win.
