Lithuanian football champions FK Kauno Žalgiris have announced another important addition to their squad ahead of the upcoming season, signing 26-year-old defender Luka Račič.

The Montenegro- and Denmark-eligible centre-back arrives in Kaunas as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Norwegian giants Rosenborg of Trondheim.

Račič featured for Rosenborg in last summer’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers, where he played against Lithuanian side Banga Gargždai. Later in the year, he was loaned to Danish club Lyngby, where he finished the 2025 season.

Speaking about the signing, FK Kauno Žalgiris sporting director Darius Šinkūnas explained the club’s decision:

“After last season we were left with only three central defenders, so we were looking for another high-quality player who could compete with the existing members of our defensive line. Luka has accumulated a lot of experience, and we expect that his arrival will bring even more quality and healthy competition, pushing both the players and the whole team forward.”

Račič developed in the youth system of Danish giants FC Copenhagen and represented Denmark at various youth international levels. At just 19 years old, he moved to England to join Brentford, where he made his debut in the Championship and even scored on his first appearance.

He later gained further experience on loan spells with Northampton Town in England and Køge in Denmark.

After his time in England, Račič went on to play for SønderjyskE (Denmark), Slaven Belupo (Croatia) and Volos (Greece), before his most recent spell with Rosenborg.

Having successfully completed his medical in Kaunas, Luka Račič will wear the number 4 shirt for Kauno Žalgiris.
