Estonian midfielder Mattias Käit opened his goalscoring account in the Swiss top flight as FC Thun continued their remarkable season with a commanding 4-1 home victory over Young Boys, strengthening their grip on first place in the Swiss Super League.
The 27-year-old Käit, who missed almost the final two months of 2025 through injury, returned to action in the previous round when the league resumed after the winter break, helping Thun to a win over Grasshopper Club Zürich. On this occasion, Thun welcomed serial Swiss champions Young Boys, who currently sit in mid-table.
Käit once again featured in the starting lineup for the league leaders. The first half ended goalless, although Young Boys saw a goal disallowed following a VAR review. The match came alive after the interval, with five goals scored in an eventful second half.
Just after the restart, Kastriot Imeri gave Thun the lead against his former club, which he left before the start of the season. Ten minutes later, Käit doubled the advantage, finishing confidently to make it 2-0. The goal marked his first official strike for Thun since joining the club last summer.
Thun soon extended their lead to 3-0, effectively putting the contest beyond doubt. Both sides added one more goal apiece in the closing stages, bringing the total to five goals after the break and sealing a comprehensive 4-1 victory for the hosts.
Käit has now made 14 appearances in the Swiss Super League this season, contributing one goal and one assist. Newly promoted Thun have been one of the stories of the campaign, sitting top of the table after 21 matches with a seven-point lead over their closest challengers FC Lugano.
Despite the club’s near 128-year history, Thun have never won the Swiss top division, with their best-ever finish being second place in the 2004/05 season. They will look to maintain their stunning title push next Sunday, when they face a tough away test against defending champions FC Basel.
