Estonia national team defender Maksim Paskotši was once again on the scoresheet in the Belgian top flight, capping off a dominant performance as KAA Gent secured a convincing 4-0 away victory over Standard Liege.

The 23-year-old centre-back is enjoying an excellent first season with Gent, and this latest strike marked his fourth goal of the campaign in the Belgian championship.

Gent travelled to Liege with Paskotši in the starting lineup to face a Standard side that sat just two points behind them prior to kick-off. Although the hosts enjoyed more possession in the first half, it was the visitors who proved far more clinical. Ivorian forward Wilfried Kanga struck twice before the break to give Gent a 2-0 advantage.

Late in the second half, Kanga completed his hat-trick, effectively sealing the contest. The final word, however, came in the 88th minute when Paskotši once again demonstrated his threat from set pieces. Rising highest to meet a corner delivered by a teammate, the Estonian defender scored the goal to make it 4-0.

The goal was Paskotši’s fourth of the league season and his third in the last four Belgian Pro League matches. With four goals to his name, he now shares third place on Gent’s internal goalscoring chart.

Thanks to the emphatic win, Gent climbed to fifth place in the standings with 32 points from 22 matches. Paskotši and his teammates will be back in action on Friday, when they travel to face RAAL La Louvière in league play.
