In the German Bundesliga, Estonia national team captain Karol Mets once again completed a full 90 minutes as his side FC St. Pauli played out a 0-0 home draw against Hamburger SV in the opening match of Bundesliga Matchday 19.
In a match that featured few clear-cut chances, the 32-year-old Mets operated in his usual role at centre-back, delivering a composed and reliable performance. St. Pauli entered the fixture aiming to put an end to a four-match winless run and were still searching for their first Bundesliga victory of 2026.
The home side came closest to breaking the deadlock. Late in the second half, St. Pauli created two excellent scoring opportunities within the space of two minutes. First, Luxembourg international Danel Sinani tested the opposition, followed shortly after by Polish wide player Arkadiusz Pyrka, but on both occasions the Hamburger SV goalkeeper denied the hosts.
The match ultimately ended scoreless, extending St. Pauli’s run without a win to five consecutive games. Mets today made his 12th Bundesliga appearance of the season.
After 18 matches, St. Pauli sit in 16th place in the 18-team league standings with 13 points.
Their next opportunity to claim a first victory of the year will come on Wednesday, January 27, when St. Pauli host RB Leipzig.
