Greek second-tier side Niki Volos have announced the departure of Aleksandr Šapovalov, with the Estonian forward leaving the club and becoming a free agent.

The 22-year-old striker joined the Greek outfit in September 2024 and went on to make a total of 29 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals during his time in Volos. While he made a solid impact overall, Šapovalov found first-team opportunities more limited this season. He featured in seven league matches, accumulating 283 minutes, during which he recorded one goal and two assists.

Interestingly, just two days prior to the official announcement, Shapovalov stated in an interview with soccernet.ee that he did not plan to change clubs. Despite those comments, Niki Volos confirmed today that the player has now departed.

Šapovalov, who becomes a free agent, previously built his reputation in Estonia’s Premium Liiga, representing FC Flora, TJK Legion and JK Tallinna Kalev. Across those spells, he made 75 top-flight appearances, scoring 20 goals.

On the international stage, ŠapovalovŠapovalov has featured extensively for Estonia’s youth national teams at various age levels, earning 39 caps and scoring 18 goals. Before his stint at Niki Volos, he also played in Greece for PAOK’s reserve side, while earlier in his development he was part of the youth system at German Bundesliga club SC Freiburg.
