Estonian international full-back Vlasi Sinjavski has officially changed clubs in the Czech Republic, completing a move to FC Baník Ostrava after spending half a season with Prague-based Bohemians 1905.
As reported yesterday, Sinjavski was absent from Bohemians’ first training session following the winter break. The club later confirmed that his absence was due to an ongoing transfer, which has now been finalized, with Baník Ostrava officially announcing the 29-year-old as their new signing.
Sinjavski made 19 league appearances for Bohemians during the first half of the season, registering four assists in his debut campaign with the club. The defender is no stranger to Czech football, as he has now spent five seasons in the country, previously representing Karviná and Slovácko. Across his Czech top-flight career, Sinjavski has played 146 matches, scoring ten goals.
Baník Ostrava’s sporting director Luděk Mikloško explained the reasoning behind the signing:
“We needed to strengthen and improve the left side of our defense. Towards the end of autumn, after Dan Holzer’s injury, we had problems there. Vlasi can play both as a defender and a wing-back. He is an experienced player who has already proven himself, and he delivered excellent performances for Bohemians in the autumn. We believe he will bring both quality and experience to the team.”
Sinjavski, who has earned 48 caps for the Estonian national team, has signed a three-year contract with the Ostrava club, with an option included. Speaking to the club’s official website, he described the move as an important step in his career:
“This is another step forward in my career, even though Baník are currently low in the table. Since I came to the Czechia, I have always seen Baník as a strong and big club that has played in European competitions for two consecutive seasons. I believe we will climb up the table during the spring. The fans are special – I always enjoyed the atmosphere here, even as an opponent.”
Baník Ostrava have endured a difficult first half of the season and currently sit 14th out of 16 teams with 14 points. The four-time Czech champions finished third last season, their best result since the 2009/10 campaign.
