The Latvian Football Federation has confirmed a two-year contract extension for national futsal team head coach Massimiliano Bellarte, strengthening stability just two months before Latvia’s first-ever appearance at the UEFA Futsal European Championship. Rīga will host part of the group stage of the tournament.
The Italian coach was appointed in the summer of 2024 and has since overseen a clear upturn in results. In 19 matches in charge, Bellarte has led Latvia to 11 wins and three draws, including notable victories over higher-ranked opponents.
LFF President Vadims Ļašenko underlined the federation’s confidence in the project:
“This decision clearly shows that the federation fully trusts the coaching staff and is satisfied with the progress that has been made with the team.”
In addition to guiding Latvia at the European Championship, Bellarte will also remain in charge during the upcoming Futsal World Cup qualification campaign. His responsibilities will continue beyond the senior team, as he will also oversee the U-19 national futsal side and the women’s futsal team.
Latvia will round off the year with an international friendly tournament in the Czechia, where they will take on Lithuania, Morocco, and the hosts in their final tests before EURO preparations intensify.
The Futsal European Championship will be staged across Rīga, Kaunas, and Ljubljana in late January and early February. Latvia have been placed in a competitive group alongside Croatia, France, and Georgia.
