The regional sides of Courland (Kurzeme) and Semigallia (Zemgale) have advanced to the final of Latvia’s qualifying competition for the 2026/27 UEFA Regions’ Cup, following a series of group-stage matches held in Riga, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) announced.
In Group A, Courland’s amateur selection drew 1–1 with Vidzeme — goals coming from Remirs Moseičenko and Valters Gaismiņš — before a commanding 6–0 victory over the Northeast Region, with Mārtiņš Blumbergs and Rainers Hermanis each scoring hat-tricks.
In Group B, Semigallia recorded a 0–0 draw with Latgale and a 1–0 win over Riga, sealed by Rūdolfs Laķis’ decisive goal.
The final will take place on 22 November at 14:00 at the Rimi Olympic Centre in Riga. The winner will go on to represent Latvia in the UEFA Regions’ Cup, Europe’s top tournament for amateur regional teams.
Each Latvian regional team is composed of players from at least three local clubs participating in LFF amateur-level competitions. Eligible players must never have played professionally nor featured in any top-division league, in Latvia or abroad.
This year marks the first time in history that Latvia’s representative for the UEFA Regions’ Cup will be determined through centralized qualifying matches. In previous editions, a combined national amateur team represented the country, while earlier tournaments featured participation by individual clubs.
Latvia will, as usual, enter the UEFA Regions’ Cup from the intermediate round, scheduled for late 2026, with the draw to be held on 10 December in Switzerland.
The UEFA Regions’ Cup, established in 1996 and first held in 1999, is a biennial competition for amateur regional teams from across Europe. The reigning champions are Aragon (Spain), and Spanish regions have been the tournament’s most successful participants, winning four of the 13 editions.
