Panevėžys continue to reinforce their squad ahead of next season, confirming that 23-year-old Ghanaian winger Kwadwo Asamoah has extended his contract for two more years.
Asamoah had struggled with injuries for a considerable period and, as a result, lacked regular playing time. However, the second half of the most recent season marked a turning point. In the Lithuanian top division, he recorded 4 goals and 2 assists in 29 matches, all of his goal contributions coming after the end of August.
In the second tier, the midfielder made two appearances and scored once, while in the FPRO LFF Cup he netted 4 goals across five matches. He also played the entirety of the cup final, which Panevėžys won.
With Panevėžys, Asamoah has collected a growing list of honours: this year’s domestic cup, last year’s Supercup, and the A Lyga gold medals in 2023.
“Yes, the first year and a half at the club wasn’t easy for me,” Asamoah told fk-panevezys.lt. “I dealt with injuries, I couldn’t find my rhythm, and when you’re not playing regularly, your confidence naturally drops. During that time, I focused on working quietly every day so I could stay fit, be ready, and not lose belief. Mentally it was difficult, of course, but I kept going. From August onward everything finally clicked and I was able to show the results of all that work. Stability comes from confidence, trusting the process, the coaches, and yourself. I kept things simple, worked hard, and the results followed.
“I decided to stay in Panevėžys because I know the club and the league well, and I feel it’s a place where I can grow as a player. I believe next season can be my best yet. I want to show that I’m capable of much more, even though past injuries slowed me down. Yes, I had other offers, but I truly believe that staying here will give me the chance to improve and have an even better season.”
During the offseason, the club also extended contracts with Justinas Januševskij and Elivelto.
