FC Flora Tallinn have reclaimed the Estonian throne after a one-year break, defeating Pärnu JK Vaprus 3-0 away from home to secure a record 16th Premium Liiga title.
Under first-year head coach Konstantin Vassiljev, Flora went into the final round knowing if Levadia do their job, then only a win would guarantee the championship and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers. With the stakes high, Vassiljev named his strongest lineup for the decisive match – against a Pärnu side that had already managed to take points off Flora earlier this season.
Flora started confidently and broke the deadlock in the 12th minute. After a well-delivered set-piece from Vladislav Kreida, veteran forward Sergei Zenjov rose highest to head the ball past the keeper into the far corner, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead and setting them on course for the title.
The Tallinn club doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Markus Poom drove into the penalty area and sent a low cross into the box – only for Siim Aer to deflect the ball into his own net, making it 2-0.
Flora controlled the remainder of the first half comfortably and went into the break 45 minutes away from another championship. They continued to press after the restart and looked to have scored a third in the 57th minute through Rauno Alliku, but VAR ruled the goal out due to a deflection.
However, Flora finally sealed the title beyond any doubt later in the second half. After fine work from Alliku down the flank, the ball fell kindly to Nikita Mihhailov, who finished from close range to make it 3-0 – sending the travelling supporters into celebration.
When the final whistle blew, Flora players and staff erupted in joy as Vassiljev takes the crown in his debut managerial season. The former Estonia international thus joins an elite group of figures who have won the Premium Liiga both as a player and as a coach.
With the victory, Flora Tallinn will represent Estonia in next season’s UEFA Champions League, while rivals FCI Levadia, who failed to win their final game against Harju JK Laagri, had to settle for second place.
