Latvia’s strongest futsal side Riga Futsal Club yesterday learned their opponent for the UEFA Futsal Champions League Round of 16, where they will take on Kosovo champions Prishtina in the first knockout stage of the tournament.
Riga Futsal Club advanced from their Main Round group in Malta, finishing second after earning two victories – 4:1 against hosts Luxol St. Andrews and 2:0 against Serbian champions Loznica-Grad – while suffering their only defeat to Portuguese giants Benfica (1:6).
Meanwhile, Prishtina finished third in their group, losing to heavyweights Sporting CP and Kairat Almaty, but progressing to the Round of 16 thanks to a win over Croatian side Vrijeme Makarska.
The Round of 16 will be played over two legs, with each team hosting one match. The winner on aggregate will advance to the quarter-finals, where a tough challenge likely awaits – potentially against former Champions League winners AE Palma Futsal, who meet MFC Hit-Kyiv in the other tie.
The first leg will be played away in Kosovo on November 24, with the return leg in Riga on December 5.
