Ex-Premier League and Estonia goalkeeper Mart Poom was forced to ask Jõhvi Phoenix fans to cheer their team on quietly in an Esiliiga B against his team, Nõmme United u21s. The request came after an angry neighbour near the stadium complained about the noise.
Travelling fans of Jõhvi Phoenix were left bemused in their tie against Nõmme United u21s after former Sunderland and Derby County goalkeeper Mart Poom requested them to support their team more quietly.
A local who lives near the ground was said to have been angered by the noise the Jõhvi Phoenix fans were making, which included the banging of a drum and consistent shouting. Therefore, causing an unusual pause in play while Nõmme United director Poom told them to quieten down.
A member of the Jõhvi Phoenix board, Sergei Ivanov, told Soccernet that around 50 fans had made the journey to the capital via bus to show support for their team. “Poom said that we couldn’t play the drums or shout because an old lady might call the police and there would be a big conflict.” Ivanov stated to Soccernet.
However, this isn’t the first time this has happened at the club, as they have previously received complaints about children being rowdy and even music being played too loud in the stadium. “Our stadium is located in the Nõmme private housing district, and we have one angry neighbour who has been complaining all the time,” said Poom.
Yet, it was a situation that was easily resolved, much to the disappointment of the Jõhvi Phoenix faithful. To make matters even worse for the travelling contingent their team lost the match 3-1. Meaning they have slipped three points behind their opponents in Esilliiga B who sit in second whilst Jõhvi Phoenix lie in third place.
