Latvian Football Federation (LFF) president Vadims Ļašenko has been elected chairman of the FIFA Futsal Committee.
This appointment comes after Ļašenko took on another major role in 2023, when he became chairman of the UEFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee. With these positions, the LFF president now heads futsal committees in both of the sport’s leading international organizations.
“Futsal is developing at a very rapid pace—its audience is growing, competition is intensifying at every level, and the number of participants continues to rise. But we cannot stop here; we must keep promoting the sport’s growth. Media coverage is crucial, and futsal deserves far more visibility, especially at the local level,” Ļašenko stated.
“Another important milestone would be the inclusion of futsal in the Olympic program, which would significantly boost its global popularity. There are many challenges ahead, but we will continue to work on them with determination,” he added.
Latvia and Lithuania itself is set to play a central role in European futsal’s future. The 2026 UEFA Futsal Championship final tournament will be hosted by Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia in January and February 2026. Ticket sales are scheduled to kick off later this month, on October 27.
