Several Estonians in Europe were in action today. Maksim Paskotši stood out with an assist in Gent’s victory over Dender in the Belgian top division, while Marten Kuusk and Martin Vetkal’s sides suffered defeats in Poland and the Netherlands.

Belgian Pro League
The 22-year-old Estonian international defender, who missed Gent’s previous league game – a win against Antwerp, their first of the season – returned to the starting XI today. Paskotši, who joined Gent at the beginning of August and scored on his debut, provided an assist in just his fourth league appearance. In the sixth minute, he set up Ivorian striker Wilfried Kanga for the opening goal.

Kanga added another early in the second half before later turning provider himself, assisting Abdelhak Kadri to seal a 3–0 victory. Paskotši played the full 90 minutes as Gent picked up their second straight win. With this result, the club climbs to fifth in the standings with 11 points. Next up for Paskotši and Gent is a trip to Anderlecht in four days’ time.

Dutch Eerste Divisie
Estonia U-21 international Martin Vetkal played a full match for FC Dordrecht in the Dutch second tier but was unable to prevent a 0-2 loss to FC Emmen. Since joining the club, this was Vetkal’s eighth consecutive start. Dordrecht conceded once in each half: Dutchman Pascal Mulder scored in the first period, while Romano Postema sealed the result with a strike in the 84th minute.

Despite his run of games, Vetkal is still searching for his first goal involvement in the Eerste Divisie. Dordrecht sit fifth in the table with 11 points from seven matches. Their next test comes on Friday when they host De Graafschap.

Polish Ekstraklasa
Meanwhile in Poland, Märten Kuusk returned to the matchday squad after missing one game, but remained on the bench as his side GKS Katowice fell to a heavy 0-3 defeat against Cracovia.

The 29-year-old defender has featured in four league matches this season. Katowice currently sit 15th out of 18 teams with seven points from nine games. Kuusk’s next chance for minutes may come in four days, when his team faces Wisła Płock in the Polish Cup.
