Latvian striker Dario Šits is set to spend the season in Spain after signing deal with Atlético Madrid B, according to Sportacentrs.com.

The 21-year-old forward, who has been part of Parma Calcio’s system for more than five years, will play in Spain’s Primera Federación, the third tier of Spanish football.

Šits was named in Parma’s squad for their Serie A opener away to Juventus earlier this month – a game the visitors lost 2-0 – but remained on the bench. Now, he takes a new step in his career by joining Atlético’s reserve side, coached by legendary striker Fernando Torres.

Last season, Šits was on loan in the Netherlands with Helmond Sport in the second division, where he registered six goals and three assists in 20 appearances. Over the summer, his name was linked with another Dutch club, Excelsior of the Eredivisie, but ultimately the move to Spain materialized.

According to sportacentrs.com loan agreement between Parma and Atlético also includes a clause that could potentially pave the way for Šits to join Atlético’s first team in the future.

Atlético Madrid B, also known as Atlético Madrileño, will begin their new season on September 1 against Atlético Sanluqueño.

A product of FK Metta’s academy, Šits has already featured for the Latvian national team, earning five senior caps and scoring twice. He has also been named in the squad for Latvia’s September fixtures in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
