Latvia international Dario Šits has attracted serious interest from Atlético Madrileño, with the Spanish club eyeing the 21-year-old striker as they look to strengthen ahead of the new Primera RFEF season.
Šits, who stands at 1.87m and is known for his physical presence in the penalty area, is currently under contract with Parma until 2028 after signing a long-term extension in May. A graduate of the Italian side’s youth academy, he joined from Latvia in 2020 and has steadily worked his way into the first-team picture. He was on the bench for Parma’s Coppa Italia opener against Pescara earlier this month and started in a pre-season friendly against Mallorca.
On the international stage, Šits has already made his mark with Latvia’s senior team. He has five caps and two goals to his name, scoring both in just 242 minutes of action, a return that underlines his efficiency in front of goal.
Last season he spent a productive loan spell at Dutch second-tier side Helmond Sport, where he scored six goals and provided three assists. That experience, combined with his national team breakthrough, has raised his profile across Europe.
Atlético Madrileño, coached by Fernando Torres, view Šits as the type of forward who could add strength and end product to their attack as they aim for promotion. The club has made him a priority option in the final weeks of the transfer market, seeing him as a powerful addition to lead the line.
For Šits, a move to Spain would represent another step in a career already marked by steady progression: from promising youth player in Latvia, to Parma’s professional ranks, to senior international goalscorer — and now potentially, to becoming the spearhead of Torres’ project in Madrid.
