Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise have announced the signing of Guilherme Henrique da Silva Carvalho – better known as Guilherme Smith – from Estonian club Nõmme Kalju FC, in a transfer that echoes last summer’s swoop for Promise David.
The 22-year-old Brazilian, who can operate both as a winger and a central striker, has been in sparkling form this season, tallying five goals and 12 assists in just 20 league appearances. With 18 months left on his Kalju contract and a market value estimated at €200,000, he represents another cost-effective gamble for the Brussels club’s well-honed recruitment model.
Union SG have developed a reputation for spotting under-the-radar talent and turning it into title-winning quality. Just last year, they signed Nigerian-born Canadian striker Promise David from Kalju – a move that proved transformational. David scored 19 league goals to help secure Union’s first Belgian Pro League title in 90 years, and was rewarded in June with a new deal running until 2029. In addition to Promise, they also brought in Ousseynou Niang from Latvia, signing the Senegalese winger from Riga FC in September 2024 for around €1.5 million—a record fee for the Latvian club.
Guilherme’s arrival will follow that same pathway – his pace, close control and ability to pick out teammates in the final third could see him adapt quickly to Belgian football.
