In an unexpected turn of events during the 24th round of the TOPsport A Lyga, DFK Dainava Alytus grabbed a vital victory, lifting themselves off the bottom of the league standings. Under the guidance of coach Mergeno Orazov, Dainava managed to edge out the strong home team FC Hegelmann with a narrow 1-0 win on the road.

The match started with the home side clearly controlling the game and creating several dangerous chances, but they couldn’t convert any. Lazar Kojič missed a great opportunity from close range, and goalkeeper Airidas Mickevičius was quick to block a threatening shot from Patrick Popescu.

Popescu, the Romanian midfielder, also failed to capitalize on another good scoring chance. Mickevičius remained a key figure in keeping Dainava in the game, making crucial saves, including denying Rasheed Yusuf.

After halftime, Dainava showed more attacking intent, especially following the substitution of the injured Obi Jeremiah Chinonso. Forward Krystian Okoniewski launched a sharp counterattack but was stopped by home goalkeeper Vincentas Šarkauskas.

The goalkeeper Mickevičius continued his strong performance by thwarting Nikola Djorić’s efforts, while substitute Leo Ribeiro caused difficulties for the hosts with his energetic play. The breakthrough came deep into stoppage time when Renatas Banevičius delivered a precise pass to Okoniewski, who calmly finished to seal the victory for Dainava.

DFK Dainava Alytus with this win catched up FK Riteriai in the table as their next game will be next Wednesday against the defending champions FK Žalgiris.
