Swiss outlet Blick reports that Estonian international and Grasshoppers defender Maksim Paskotši is on the verge of a summer transfer to Belgian top-flight club Gent.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been a regular starter for Grasshoppers since arriving in Zurich last year, and he even found the net in what may have been his final game for the club—a 1–2 defeat against FC Basel last weekend. While his contract runs until the summer of 2026, Grasshoppers are unlikely to offer an extension, making a summer sale the most logical move.

Paskotši’s rise has been steady. He started his professional career with FC Flora in Tallinn before joining Tottenham Hotspur’s academy in 2020. His only senior appearance for Spurs came in a UEFA Conference League qualifier in 2021, when he came off the bench late in the game against Paços de Ferreira. In Switzerland, he’s made 55 top-flight appearances and scored twice—a solid return for a defender.

Gent, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their squad after missing out on European football this season. The Belgian club, league champions in 2015 and four-time domestic cup winners, have been a consistent presence in the UEFA Conference League in recent years. In fact, they’ve made the knockout rounds for the last four seasons, including a memorable quarterfinal run in 2022 where they were eliminated by eventual champions West Ham United. Last season, they fell to Real Betis in the Round of 16.

Domestically, Gent have started their 2024/25 league campaign with one win and one defeat.
