In today’s UEFA Champions League third qualifying round draw, Latvian champions FC RFS discovered their potential opponents. Should they manage to defeat Swedish champions Malmö FF in the second qualifying round, RFS will go on to face the winner of the tie between Denmark’s FC Copenhagen and Kosovo’s FC Drita.
Earlier this morning, before the draw took place, UEFA announced the mini-groups, narrowing down RFS’s possible opponents to three pairings. Aside from the Copenhagen vs Drita matchup, the Latvian champions could also have drawn the winner of Crvena Zvezda (Serbia) vs Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar), or Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) vs Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan).
The draw, held just moments ago at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, confirmed that if RFS triumphs over Malmö, they will meet either FC Copenhagen or FC Drita in the next round.
FC RFS kicks off their Champions League second qualifying round campaign tomorrow in a sold-out LNK Sporta Parks in Riga. The return leg is scheduled for next Wednesday in Malmö.
The third qualifying round ties in the UEFA Champions League are set to take place on August 5/6 and 12/13.
