The club was founded on May 20, 2000. FK Tukums started competing in the Latvian third tier in 2004, where they quickly demonstrated their potential by finishing in 4th place in their first season. In 2005, FK Tukums moved up to the Latvian second tier but faced tough competition, ending the season in 13th place. Despite this setback, the club remained determined to improve. In 2008, they returned to the second tier and managed to finish in 3rd place.

Since their promotion to Virsliga, FK Tukums has faced both challenges and achievements in the top division. The club has built a reputation for giving opportunities to young players, many of whom come from their local academy. This commitment to youth development is a significant part of their philosophy.
