Latvian Higher League side FS Jelgava continues to double down on its Czech connection, adding yet another Czech player to their roster this season. The latest addition is experienced midfielder Martin Hašek, who becomes the seventh Czech player to join the club in 2025.
The 29-year-old joins his brother Filip Hašek, who was officially registered with FS Jelgava just a day prior and already made his debut in the team’s loss to Riga FC.
Martin Hašek arrives in Jelgava with a wealth of experience, having played 94 matches in the Czech top division with Bohemians 1905 and the famed Sparta Prague, scoring a total of 14 goals. His standout season came in 2019/20, when he netted five goals and provided four assists in 16 appearances for Sparta Prague, helping them lift the Czech Cup that season.
However, his time at Sparta ended in controversy. On January, 2020, Hašek refused to join the team for a training camp in Spain. The club subsequently demoted him to the reserves in February, and on March, 2020, he unilaterally terminated his contract. This led to a lengthy legal dispute, eventually reaching the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with Hašek facing a significant financial penalty.
After nearly a year without a club, Hašek joined 2. Bundesliga side Würzburger Kickers in January 2021 for half a season. He then moved to Turkey’s second division, signing with Erzurumspor FK. His more recent stops include a short stint in Poland’s Ekstraklasa with Wisła Płock, where he made just three appearances, and a spell in Greece’s second division with Makedonikos Neapolis.
