FK Liepāja have strengthened their squad with the signing of Nigerian winger Abiodun Ogunniyi, who joins the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with FK Auda on June 30.
The 23-year-old officially announced his departure from Auda earlier today on platform X (formerly Twitter), ending a three-year stint with the club. Just hours later, FK Liepāja confirmed Ogunniyi’s arrival, adding another dynamic option to their attack.
Ogunniyi has been a familiar name in the Latvian football scene since 2021, when he moved from Nigerian Premier League side Sunshine Stars to join Virslīga club Spartaks Jūrmala at the age of 19. He spent one and a half seasons there before making a move to FK Auda in the summer of 2022.
During his time at Auda, Ogunniyi made 113 appearances, scored 18 goals, and provided 11 assists. He captained the side and played a key role in their historic 2022 Latvian Cup victory. In the current season, he has already featured in 19 matches, scoring three goals and registering one assist.
Ogunniyi becomes the fourth summer signing for FK Liepāja, joining recent arrivals Iļja Korotkovs, Latvian international Aleksejs Saveļjevs, and Lithuanian defender Edvinas Girdvainis.
